Rick Tanner and Family present TANNER'S ALL-STAR DELI
Rick started his journey in the food service industry at a young age, helping his mother in her cake shop in Spryfield at just 13 years old. As he grew older, he continued to work in the industry, taking on roles at PG's Pizza and Tripoli Pizza in the Spryfield area at 16.
After completing his education in retail meat cutting and business management at NSCC Kingstec in Kentville at the age of 18, Rick began working for IGA and Sobeys for less than a year. However, he soon decided to pursue his own entrepreneurial venture and opened Rick & Rick's Subs & Donairs on Herring Cove Road in late 1989 into early 1990.
With his family's support, Rick expanded his business by launching Rick's Fine Foods, which became a leading supplier of pre-made subs and sandwiches to over 1600 locations, selling up to 60,000 sandwiches weekly. During this time, Rick also opened UncleBucks in Spryfield in 1998, which became a beloved community staple.
In 2019, Rick opened Tanner's All-Star Deli & Grill in the Spryfield Mall. Although the business initially thrived, it was ultimately forced to close due to circumstances beyond Rick's control. However, after significant renovations, Rick reopened Tanner's Deli beside UncleBucks in 2022, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his story.
